FAW-Volkswagen’s powertrain remanufacturing project was formally put into operation
On Aug. 27, Volkswagen-FAW Engine (Dalian) Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Volkswagen Group and China FAW Group, officially announced the start of production of the powertrain remanufacturing project.
About 100 million CNY (15.6 million US$) was invested for phase one of the remanufacturing project, which had a capacity of 5,000 engines per year. The first remanufactured are 20 productions of EA888 series. The EA888 series are mainly used in MAGOTAN, Golf, Audi Q5, A4L and Shanghai Volkswagen’s Tiguan, Superb, Octavia, which are popular commodities on the market.
After a period of time, the engine re-manufacturing projects will be gradually extended to other engines of Volkswagen. By 2014, the production capacity will be three times to the present, to 15,000 units per year. Not only that, the re-manufacturing will be gradually extended to the transmission.
