China to launch strict C-NCAP standards for EVs
China has formulated a safety test standard system for new energy vehicles and its detailed standards are ready to come out, reported a Chinese website dedicated to automobile quality review.
Safety tests on NEV will have more standards besides those test requirements on traditional vehicles, said Liu Yuguang, an official from China Automotive Technology and Research Center which runs C-NCAP, or China New Car Assessment Program. Safety tests on electric vehicles have standards that battery packs should not be allowed in the vehicle cabin and electricity leakage should be prevented. It is the same standard for compressed natural gas vehicles that gas tanks are not allowed in vehicle cabin neither.
Liu said none of the current new energy vehicles on road in China has undergone C-NCAP tests.
